NEW INTERACTIVE 3D BOOSTS ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN IN SOUTH YORKSHIRE

Doncaster-based Leading Edge Technology Solutions (LETS) hit the road during National Architecture Week (June 17- 26) to alert more South Yorkshire architects to the benefits of using fully interactive three-dimensional computer models when planning new developments.

Backed by the region’s Objective 1 regeneration fund, the not-for-profit LETS project is able to create advanced virtual reality models of new developments for South Yorkshire architects at up to half the true commercial cost.

“The LETS project is designed to give South Yorkshire companies an edge in computer design and communication by making the latest 3D imaging technology available and affordable by even small companies,” said LETS Director Paul Thorpe.

“Unlike traditional CAD data and static 3D depictions, interactive 3D brings developments to life because users can choose any viewpoint they want to examine a planned development in more detail.”

Current building and landscape designs that have benefited from LETS advanced virtual reality modelling include a new eco-homes development in North Yorkshire and a planned residential centre for the homeless in Sheffield.

As part of National Architecture Week, LETS representatives demonstrated new interactive 3D applications at a special seminar for architects at Hellaby Hall Hotel in Rotherham on and manned a special LETS’ exhibition unit in Doncaster town centre.
