Digital Knowledge Exchange
Home of the LETS project, The Digital Knowledge Exchange, located on the historic Montague Estates, Doncaster is host to the new European Interactive Visualisation Research Centre (IVRC) a collaborative UK/USA solution centre created as a result of collaboration and funding from Doncaster College, EON Reality, VBrick and the European Union (via Objective 1). Its objective is to introduce new and emerging technologies to Yorkshire industry to promote economic and workforce development with the primary aim of promoting local innovation within an increasingly competitive global economy.
EON Reality
EON Reality, located in Irvine, California, USA, Eon is a global leader in Interactive 3D software and imaging solutions which provide photo-realistic and physics-based Virtual Reality technology that can be published for use on the Internet and large 4D displays systems. Fortune 500 companies using Eon software include American Suzuki, Eastman Kodak, Bechtel Corp and Office Depot.
VBrick
Founded in 1997 and based in Connecticut USA, VBrick is a privately held company that has enjoyed rapid growth by helping customers successfully introduce mission critical video applications across their enterprise networks. Since the company’s launch, VBrick has been setting the standard for quality, performance and innovation in the delivery of live and stored video over IP networks - LANs, WANs and the Internet. VBrick is an active participant in the development of industry standards playing an influential role in the Internet Streaming Media Alliance (ISMA) and the MPEG Industry Forum. With over 20,000 video appliances installed across thousands of IP networks world-wide, VBrick is the recognized leader in reliable, high-performance, easy-to-use networked video solutions.
Objective 1
The Objective 1 Programme in South Yorkshire is a £2.1 billion investment programme that includes over £730 million from the European Union’s Structural Fund budget as well as public and private sector resources. South Yorkshire is one of Europe’s poorer areas with fewer businesses and fewer and less well-paid jobs than other regions. South Yorkshire was designated as an Objective 1 area, which is the highest category of European support, at the Berlin Summit in 1999. The Objective 1 Programme in South Yorkshire was launched in July 2000 and runs until the end of 2006.The Programme’s strategy was shaped by the South Yorkshire Vision, developed by local partners.
SRB
There is currently one Single Regeneration Budget (SRB) scheme operating within Doncaster; SRB6 "A New Economy for the 21st Century". The Single Regeneration Budget is one of the main sources of regeneration funding in England. Its principle purpose is to enhance the quality of life of people in areas of need and deprivation.
The formal bidding partnership for Doncaster was through the South Yorkshire Coalfield Partnership. Funding received from Yorkshire Forward is managed locally by the SRB Accountable Body, based within Doncaster Council - Directorate of Policy, Partnerships and Governance - Policy, Partnerships and Performance.
